Police find suspect who was seen pushing shopping cart with body inside

A man who witnesses reported pushing a shopping cart with a dead body wrapped in blankets inside was arrested on suspicion of murder as Phoenix police detectives work to determine a motive in the slaying.

Rudy Soriano, 26, was arrested one month after residents of a west Phoenix apartment complex discovered the body dumped in a common area on March 13. Officers served search warrants at the complex at 2627 N. 45th Ave. and at a house in the same area late last week.

Soriano was arrested without incident near Indian School Road and 83rd Avenue, Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes said Wednesday.

Investigators said evidence seized from a house in the 7900 block of West Indianola Avenue matched Soriano to witness accounts of the previously-unidentified man they saw pushing the wrapped-up body in the shopping cart. The body of Rodolpho Yurralde, 32, was discovered after residents reported seeing the cart tip over, revealing the corpse.

Soriano was released from an Arizona state prison in June after he served three years of a four-year sentence for aggravated assault and auto theft, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections.
