YUMA - An Arizona prison inmate on death row for a 1997 murder-for-hire in Yuma has died of natural causes.
State Department of Corrections officials told the Yuma Sun that 62-year-old Vincent Lee Accardo died Wednesday night at a hospital outside the prison.
Accardo had been at the state prison's Eyman Complex in Florence since Aug. 1, 2008. He was sentenced to death for the fatal shooting of 55-year-old Kenneth Cloud in a Yuma restaurant parking lot on Dec. 9, 1997.
Prosecutors say Cloud's wife hired Accardo to kill her husband.
Lois Kay Cloud was convicted of first-degree murder, solicitation to commit first-degree murder, facilitation to commit first-degree murder and hindering prosecution. She escaped the death penalty, but was sentenced to life in prison last October with no possibility of parole
