A convicted sex offender was arrested Friday in connection with the shooting death of man whose body was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Jamal Mitchell, 36, faces nine charges, including first-degree murder, in Wednesday morning's slaying of Nathaniel Kinsey, 28.
Police said Mitchell and three other people arrived at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant off of Central and Dunlap to meet up with two other people for a drug deal. Mitchell was going to sell three pounds of pot, officers said.
Mitchell and several others wound up at an apartment complex at 201 E. Townley to finish the transaction, police investigators said.
Kinsey was shot twice in the chest and was then rushed to the hospital. He died a short time later.
Jamal was released from the Department of Corrections in June 2011. He is a convited sex offender, imprisoned for the 1993 rape of a mentally challenged 15 year old girl.
